Arts United of Fort Wayne
Arts United is the third oldest united nonprofit arts fund in the United States and the second largest arts council in Indiana. The mission of Arts United is to provide support to arts and cultural organizations and to unite and coordinate arts efforts in northeast Indiana. Advocacy, allocations, facilities, and fundraising are at the core of the Arts United’s mission.
Arts United contracted JOMA Arts&Consulting, LLC to create an assessment process and action plan that focused on artists, arts groups, and youth-serving organizations in the underserved neighborhoods of Fort Wayne. JOMA submitted a proposal to Arts United to:
-
Assess the cultural infrastructure, needs and interests among target populations
-
Discover what people, organizations, or institutions might be effective partners
-
Recommend effective strategies for achieving those objectives
JOMA also developed a fund raising plan for Arts United. In 2005 JOMA was hired by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation to help Arts United reverse the downward trend in its fundraising by examining the operation as it exists, analyze existing opportunities and suggest strategies for moving forward. JOMA provided an extensive review and interpretation of the financial data compiled.

Ohio Arts Council Assessment
In the summer of 2002, the Ohio Arts Council’s Minority Assistance Program engaged JOMA Arts&Consulting, LLC to conduct an in-depth examination of the MAP’s Long Term Assistance Program. The Minority Arts Program was created in 1980 through an Ohio Arts Council initiative composed of a select committee and staff. The objective of the program in the early years was to “mainstream” integrate emerging “minority” organizations into the OAC activities. The focus of the assessment was A) to determine the degree of success the program has achieve relative to its stated goals B) to obtain any suggestions they offer for improvement of the program, and C) compare the program to other agencies that offer technical assistance.
The assessment methodology involved information gathered through interviews and surveys conducted over a four-month process between July and November of 2002 to gather feedback from the Program participants, the advisors, and the OAC. The findings were based on qualitative data and the information and comparative analysis of all the information collected.
Based on the information collected the conclusion came to be that the prevailing view of the program from the perspective of the OAC staff, the client organizations, and the advisors was that the MAP/LTAP was generally a success. Resolution of MAP/LTAP role in the future strategic plans of the OAC may require revisiting or modification in accordance with prevailing needs and available resources.
